About HOWID

Help For Orphans, Widows, And Internally Displaced.

The Origins

It is important to highlight our motivation of what we do. Since 1990, Cameroon’s economic situation started experiencing a slump. The government engaged in a number of measures under the Structural Adjustment Plan(SAP) which included drastic salary cuts, lay-offs from state and parastatal establishments over 60% of whom were women.

Political Crises

Then came the socio-political upheavals in the extreme northern region due to B-ok-o-H-a-ram incursiona and the North West South West( popularly known as the a-ngl-op-hone crises) leading to the death of dozens of males rendering their spouses, widows and their children, orphans.

IDPs In Record Numbers

The persistence of these crises (which are still ongoing) has caused several thousand families to relocate and found themselves as Internally Displaced Person’s(IDPs). There were therefore several families roaming the streets, majority of whom were widows and orphans.

Authorities We Contacted

We contacted authorities of the Ministry in charge of vocational training, and a good number of private and parapublic establishments, and we were really glad to be given the opportunity to help as an established charity organization in Cameroon.

Opportunities to Help

We discovered that there were a good number of opportunities open, which we could indulge in together with these destitute widows and orphans to improve upon the overall socio-economic situation of these people.

HOWID

There is a growing number of orphanages with many children who need care.

These urgent needs led to the creation of HOWID.

About HOWID

There are times when a widow will experience a mental state of isolation, which gets worse with lack of daily sustenance. There is an urgent need to lift a widow up from moments of desperation.

These urgent needs led to the creation of HOWID.

We can make a difference in the lives of currently displaced widows and orphans in Cameroon.

We provide food, medicine, and shelter, among other services, to the widows, orphans and IDPs in Cameroon.

About HOWID

We provide education to internally displaced children in Cameroon.

HOWID is being implemented to ensure that all children and elderly live a physically, mentally and emotionally healthy life.

Cameroon has been plagued by Cholera outbreaks which has affected 8 regions in the country where over 15,333 people were sick and 311 deaths.

Floods and droughts are a common occurrence as well as civil wars. In 2023, one out of every six people needed humanitarian assistance.

About HOWID

Cameroon has abundant surface water and some rainfall throughout the year, however, in the dry season, the demand for surface water resources exceeds supply and much of the rural population rely on groundwater.

HOWID is a 501©(3) non-profit organization based in Douglasville, Georgia, United States & Cameroon, aimed at providing clean water to the children and elderly.

We hope to create a healthcare program aimed at providing access to preventive care such as immunizations, as well as treatment of common childhood illnesses.

We aim to implement training to equip community members with skills on promotion of personal hygiene, home-based management of common childhood diseases as well as HIV/AIDS prevention and care.

About HOWID

We also hope to provide scholarships to high-achieving children.

At HOWID, we plan to raise funds to help with shipping dried foods, clothes, hygiene products, school supplies, medical supplies, arts and crafts, laptops, books and other educational supplies.
